Crewe Police Cadets Join Our Cheshire Police Family

Good afternoon,
Over this past week, three of your local Crewe Police PCSO's were trained in additional Safeguarding and Safety training qualifications to run another year of Crewe Police Cadet's.
We will be starting off our new Cadet Year online this year due to COVID-19, but still look forward to the prospect of the Cadet's being able to engage with and in our community in the near future.
We have been overwhelmed with applications and those successful have heard back from our recruitment team, so well done to all who have received their offer.
2019 was our first year as a Cadet unit, but regardless of it being our first it was a very successful year. We featured on BBC One Show with our Police 'Road Safety and Hate Crime' inspired Ice Cream Van after working alongside the incredible World Leading Ice Cream Van Traders, Whitby Morrison, and also held Cheshire Constabulary's first Cadet Residential. Our Cadet's, free of charge were taken white water rafting, paddle boarding along the Menai Strait and went snow tobogganing.
We will keep you updated on our exciting and engaging journey together as the Crewe Police Cadet's!
Thank you for your time.
Kind regards,
PCSO Lizzie Jolley 22582 Email tracking gif

Lock Up Home Security

The weather is getting warmer and we're seeing windows are being left open when residents are out and front doors being propped open as residents sit in the back room or garden to let air in.
We are asking you to ensure that your property is fully locked when you go out. This includes windows.
Please think LOCK UP before you go or sit in the back garden. Think as if you were an intruder and asses where you need to add more home security.
Perhaps your dustbin is next to where a window opens or maybe you leave ladders out at the front for your DIY in the sun? these are just some examples of what we have seen during our patrols.
Don't make it easy for intruders, for any more crime prevention advice please feel free to visit our Cheshire Police Website.
Thank you for your time

Lock Up - Home Security

Good afternoon,
The weather is getting warmer and we're seeing windows are being left open when residents are out and, front doors being propped open as residents sit in the back room or garden to let air in.
We're asking you to ensure that your property is fully locked when you go out. This includes windows.
It's wonderful to understand how trusting our community is of each other, but we've seen incidents where opportunists are targeting nice areas due to this trusting nature.
Please think LOCK UP before you go out or sit in the back room/garden. Think as if you were an intruder and assess where you need to add more home security.
Perhaps your dustbin is next to where a window opens or maybe you leave ladders out at the front for your DIY in the sun? We've seen it all over the last few weeks since the weather has improved.
Don't make it easy for the intruders, for any more tips, please feel free to visit our Cheshire Police website.
Have a great day and remember to LOCK UP!
Thank you for your time.

Catalytic Convertor Theft

The Precious metal in Catalytic Convertors has led to an increase in theft across the country. Together with our partners, we are committed to tackling the issue.
Here are some of the steps you can take to protect your car.

  • Protect your car by asking your car dealer if they can give you any advice on locks or guards that are approved by the vehicle manufacturer and tested to Sold Secure Gold.
  • Mark your catalytic convertor with a forensic marker and register your convertor to make it harder for thieves to dispose of it.
  • Park your car somewhere well-lit, overlooked and among as many other vehicles as possible. Try to park so the convertor can't be easily reached, close to a wall, a fence or tightly between other cars for example
You can help stop catalytic convertor thefts
Please contact 101 or 999 in an emergency

Newborn lambs welcome Farm’s first visitors We’ve welcomed 26 healthy little lambs

Tatton Park’s Farm re-opened this week after a lockdown winter, and some lovely new arrivals are greeting visitors back this spring. “We’ve welcomed 26 healthy little lambs and they are already skipping round the lambing shed” says Elly Edwards, Tatton Park Farm Assistant and resident sheep expert. “We are so pleased with how lambing has gone. It’s our absolute favourite time of year, helping to bring new life into the world and we’re just delighted to be open again so everyone can enjoy the lambs.”

Counting sheep

Elly and the team work hard throughout the winter months to synchronise the ewes to all lamb at roughly the same time. A specialist sheep scanner visited the Farm in early February to check on the ewes and count unborn sheep. “Once we have this information,” explains Elly “we can give the expectant ewes the correct care and feed for the number of lambs they are carrying, to ensure the best possible results for all the animals.”

Spring has sprung and the Farm gates are open to visitors

As well as the fleecey stars of the show, the Farm has also welcomed its first newborn chicks this week and piglets were born three weeks ago, making it feel more like spring than ever. These baby animals join Farmyard favourites such as cows, donkeys and geese. You can also meet several rare breed animals including the Leicester Longwool Sheep, Clydesdale Horses, Tamworth Pigs and Golden Guernsey Goats, all of which are on the Rare Breeds Survival Trust’s watch-list. Tatton Park’s Farm is an Approved Conservation Centre for the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, and these breeds’ numbers are maintained thanks only to the dedication and hard work of the Farm staff.

Fun Troll Trail until Sunday 18 April

Grub the evil Troll is on the loose at the Farm! Can you help the spring lambs escape by finding the materials you need to build a bridge? Use your trail sheet to write down everything you need, stop off for a selfie with Grub in the woodland and don't forget to collect your sticker reward at the end! All tickets to the Farm must be pre-booked online at tattonpark.org.uk

98 per cent of Cheshire East parents given a primary school place of their choice on national offer day

Cheshire East Council’s school admissions team continue to work with schools to ensure that parents and carers receive primary school places for children due to start in September 2021.

92.8 per cent of Cheshire East families received their first choice (an increase from 91.4 per cent in 2020) with 98.4 per cent receiving a preference place (an increase from 98.1% in 2020) as letters were distributed on national offer day (16 April).

It is the council’s statutory responsibility to ensure that there are enough school places across the borough and the admissions team received more than 4,000 applications for reception places for September 2021.

Ged Rowney, Cheshire East Council interim director of children’s services, said: “We have a superb record in Cheshire East for children and their parents being offered a place of their choice in one of the borough’s many primary schools.

“We know that Cheshire East is a great place to learn with 93 per cent of our primary schools rated good or outstanding by Ofsted.

“Our vision is that all children and young people, including our most vulnerable, have choices in their education and onto employment and training. In short, we want them to have an enjoyable education that supports them to achieve to their full potential.

“Our role is to ensure that we have enough school places for our growing population.  Approximately £84 million has been invested in schemes that are either completed or committed, into schools for additional places or to improve their condition.

“Providing additional places also helps more children attend a local school reducing the need to travel and promoting a healthy lifestyle by walking or cycling.

“With all the disruption to education over the last 12 months, I’d like to thank all our schools and the admissions team for working so hard to ensure that children can come to school, get the best start in life and learn, develop and experience the many exciting opportunities that await them.

“For the very small proportion of parents who have not received a place at their first preference school, this will be disappointing. If these families would prefer an alternative school, parents have the right to submit an appeal and/or go on the waiting list for another school(s). Parents are advised to accept their child’s offer even if they would prefer a different school, until they have confirmed alternative arrangements for their child’s education.”

More information and advice can be found at www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/schooladmissions or on the website of the preferred school.

Parents are also encouraged to follow the council’s Family Information Service on social media for tips and advice.

Cheshire East Council encourages residents not to drop their guard against Covid-19

Cheshire East Council is encouraging residents not to drop their guard against the ongoing battle against Covid-19.

As we progress step by step through the government’s roadmap out of lockdown, we must not forget how hard we’ve all worked, and the many sacrifices we’ve all made to get to this stage.

Many people will be celebrating this week’s easing of restrictions –including the re-opening of non-essential shops, outdoor hospitality, many outdoor attractions, and indoor leisure, including gyms.

Infection rates across Cheshire East are currently 15.6 cases per 100k over 7 days, which is a massive achievement following the peak of over 500 cases per 100k in January this year. This reduction in cases has been achieved through the many sacrifices of residents and businesses in sticking to the lockdown measures and keeping up with social distancing, wearing face coverings where possible and maintaining hygiene standards.

Cheshire East Council has seen the effectiveness of local contact tracing of residents who have received a positive test result. The Council contact the individual directly rather than the national service and instruct the individual to self-isolate. Local contact tracers also provide instructions and support to people, who have tested positive and for members of their households, who have to self-isolate.

The NHS Covid-19 vaccination programme in Cheshire East, led by the NHS Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group, has so far seen over 204,000 residents, nearly 63% have had their first dose of the vaccine and 61,000 residents so far having had their second dose. The number of people in Cheshire East who have had their first and second dose is increasing on a daily basis and the council would like to thank all of those who’ve had it so far.

Dr Matt Tyrer, Director of Public Health for Cheshire East Council said: “I’d like to thank all residents for their hard work in driving infection rates in Cheshire East down. Despite our successes we all must remain vigilant and work hard to not let this virus work its way back into our borough. If we let our guard down it can quickly embed itself and continue to cause illness and, sadly, death in some cases.

“It’s important that we do not forget the continued importance of good hand hygiene, wearing a face covering where appropriate and keeping a distance from others.

“We want residents to be able to relax and have a good time enjoying the current relaxed measures, but not to let their standards drop and their view on the latest continuing measures such as the rule of six/two households outside, to blur. People are generally safer outside in the fresh air which is why it’s important not to mix with others indoors.

“We must continue to protect ourselves and others through regular testing as around one in three people who have Covid-19 do not have any symptoms. The council has a range of testing options for residents: via visiting a testing centre or to collect home-testing kits for asymptomatic tests, and several testing sites available for tests for those with symptoms. These can be found by visiting www.Cheshireeast.gov.uk/covid-testing

“Regular testing is still important for those people who have had their first, or even second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine as despite having higher immunity against the virus, you can still catch it and carry it to others.

Cheshire Fire launches sprinkler campaign

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service is launching a year-long campaign on 1 April to raise awareness of the benefits of fitting sprinkler systems in business premises.
Led by the Business Safety team, the initiative will not only highlight the benefits sprinkler systems bring to a business, but also encourage decision makers to consider fitting sprinkler systems in all new builds, as well as the retrospective fitting of the devices in older premises.

Smoke alarms save lives

Smoke alarms can be the difference between life and death.
Research suggests that you are at least four times more likely to die in a house fire if you don’t have a smoke alarm.
That’s why we're urging residents to purchase alarms for their homes.

Be Water Aware

During the current spell of warm weather, please don't be tempted to cool off in rivers, canals, ponds, quarries or lakes. Cooling off in open water can have deadly consequences. Every year firefighters are called to incidents where people get into difficulty when cooling off in open water.

Cheshire East Council pilots the country’s first dual use Covid-19 testing site

Cheshire East Council is trialling a dual use Covid-19 testing site – the first of its kind in the country.

From Tuesday 6 April, the existing walk-through local testing site in Crewe will become dual use, allowing residents to use a pre-booked service for both asymptomatic and symptomatic testing at different times during the day.

The site will be open from 8am–1pm for asymptomatic, lateral flow testing. This is a test for residents who have no symptoms of Covid-19.

Lateral flow tests (LFT) are rapid tests that are done on site and allow results to be received within the hour.

From 2–8pm the Crewe site will undertake symptomatic tests –these are tests for residents who have symptoms of Covid-19 – commonly referred to as PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests.

PCR tests are sent to local laboratories and results are received by the resident within a few days. People taking these tests must self-isolate until they receive their results.

The site is located on Chester Street car park and is the second largest testing facility to open in the North West, second to testing facilities in Manchester. There are 19 testing pods available and the site has the capacity to carry out 500 tests a day. The trial of the dual use site will run for two weeks from 6–19 April.

Testing sessions for LFT and PCR tests are split during the day therefore there is no risk of asymptomatic and symptomatic residents mixing. The site is fully cleaned and disinfected in-between the morning and afternoon sessions and overnight.

Open from 8am until 8pm, the site offers improved access for the whole community, especially those who do not have access to a car.

Appointments for both asymptomatic and symptomatic tests must be booked in advance.  Asymptomatic, lateral flow tests are booked via https://cheshireeast.zipporah.co.uk/LFT.Bookings

Symptomatic, PCR tests are booked via the national booking facility https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test. No walk-up appointments will be available. Users will be asked to self-swab when attending.

Dr Matt Tyrer, director of public health for Cheshire East Council, said: “It’s an honour that our testing site in Crewe has been chosen to pilot this trial, the first of its kind in the country. The results of the trial will help to shape future testing facilities for local councils.

“We have worked closely with the national testing team to secure the best provision for Cheshire East and through dedicated and innovative working, we have been given the responsibility of trying a new, flexible approach to testing, one that will be of great benefit to local residents.

“Staff are on hand throughout the appointment to give clear advice and guidance on what to do and where to go, in an efficient and relaxed environment.”

Residents are able to book a test at the Crewe testing site via the national Covid-19 online booking facility from Tuesday 6 April at https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test
