Council premieres film promoting early help for parents

Cheshire East Council has thanked families who featured in a short film promoting the early help on offer for parents at one of their children’s centres.

The film explains the council’s ‘parenting journey’ which is delivered in partnership with health professionals and supports parents from pregnancy until the child starts school.

The journey has 12 stops, including sessions for parents and children in their local children’s centres, support for the child’s language and communication, home health visits and getting ready for school.

The most recent event on 19 July was a special preview screening to some of the stars who were featured in the film, including 18 month-old Jack, Noah and Zaiden along with their mums and four-week old baby Willow, who came along to support her big brother.

The parenting journey programme is a fun informal way for mums-to-be, new mums, dads, grandparents and carers to learn more about their child’s development, speak to health and childcare professionals and also a chance to meet other parents.

Councillor Dorothy Flude, Cheshire East Council cabinet member for children and families said: “I’d like to thank all those who took part in this short film that promotes a really important service. Viewers will see, first hand, from parents about the wealth of support, advice and information available from staff at our children’s centres and how valuable contact with others is in supporting their own parenting journey.

“Having the opportunity to access a strong early-help offer is vital to families as it provides the support they need as soon as they need it and prevents problems from escalating.“

Parent, Louisa said: “I think if I’d not had this resource, I would have been more anxious, not had as much good information and been a lot more isolated, which would have had an impact on my mental health.”
