STATEMENT RE: group leaders’ response to London attack

The leaders of all political parties of Cheshire East Council,
Councillor Rachel Bailey,
Councillor Sam Corcoran,
Councillor Barry Burkhill,
Councillor Rod Fletcher,
issued a joint statement today saying:

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who have lost loved ones and have been affected in other ways by this terrorist attack.

“The attack in London, on Saturday night, was both pointless and horrific.

“We will be writing to civic leaders in London to express our own and the borough’s condolences.

“In Cheshire East, all council buildings will fly flags at half mast and we would urge businesses that have their own flags to do the same. We would also urge all residents and businesses to be vigilant. If people see anything suspicious, they should report it to the police.

“The council will continue to work with partners and communities to seek to ensure the safety of our residents.

“Cheshire East Council will join the national minute’s silence at 11am tomorrow (June 6). The public are invited to join council members and staff outside Westfields in Sandbach, the Old Town Hall in Macclesfield and in Memorial Square, Crewe.”

Councillor Arthur Moran, Mayor of Cheshire East, said: “I would echo the words of the leaders of Cheshire East. This is a very sad time. I would also like to pay tribute to the emergency services and medical staff who responded in such a heroic way.”
