Crewe’s Seahorse Swimming Club

Crewe’s Seahorse Swimming Club came away as silver medal winners from the Halliwick National Gala at Hull.

They swam as part of a North West team that competed against some of the best disabled swimmers in the UK. Erin and Hollie and seven other Seahorse members qualified for the finals after winning their regional heats last month.

The Rotary Club of Crewe have supported Seahorse for several years and their President, Ray Stafford MBE, recently visited Seahorse to congratulate the swimmers on their achievements at the regional and national galas. As well as praising the swimmers, he also complemented the volunteers at the Club who work behind the scenes.

Seahorse Chairman Rob Dutton said, “It was pleasing to see Rotary President Ray Stafford praising the swimmers and volunteers for their efforts. The Club is very proud of all the swimmers who always give their best when competing. The standard in the national championships is very high and it was good to see Erin and Hollie among the medal winners with several other Seahorse swimmers seconds away from winning medals.”

Seahorse was set up in 1956 for people with disabilities. They meet every Thursday evening at Crewe Baths at 7pm and rely on volunteers to assist the swimmers. Any help would be appreciated. To volunteer or for more information call Secretary Gareth Roberts on 01270 629958.
