Council and partners make play more fun

 

Children at Hungerford Road Primary School are enjoying a newly refurbished playground which they helped to design.

The work was carried out thanks to a partnership between Cheshire East Council and WREN, a not-for-profit business that awards grants to benefit the lives of people living close to landfill sites. 

Additional funding came from a section 106 agreement with the developer of a former petrol station on Hungerford Road in Crewe.

Pupils were involved in designing the play area on Macon Meadows and in selecting equipment, which can be used by children of all abilities. 

There is a cantilever swing fitted with a basket seat that children can lie in, a slide wide enough for children to go down with a carer, two spring animals fitted with back supports, new traditional swings with cradle and flat seats, a rocking rockette, climbing frame and see-saw.

Councillor David Topping, Cheshire East Council’s Cabinet member for service commissioning, said: “Officers at Ansa, the Council’s operating company for grounds maintenance and streetscape services, have worked hard to put together funding to enable the facilities to be brought up to the latest European standards.

“The improvements will enable all children to get much more enjoyment from this play area, while affording the safety which will always be our priority for the residents of Cheshire East.”
