Advertisers asked to refrain from displaying pay day loan adverts.

Willaston and Rope Ward UKIP Councillor Brian Silvester is pleased that advertisers are to be asked to refrain from displaying pay day loan adverts. He said," In July I asked Cheshire East Council (CE) to try and reach agreements with commercial partners in the Borough to stop pay day loan companies advertising on billboards and bus shelters throughout Cheshire East. (See below)

CE have replied(below)that our contracts for our bus shelters (with Adshel) and for the rear of buses (Arriva and D+G) don't allow us to specify types of advertising. However, CE will write to them requesting that they refrain from using pay day loan advertisers.

I believe that CE should be encouraging our residents to approach responsible lenders, like Credit Unions. This move on advertising will help keep local people away from the clutches of the pay day loan companies, who charge astronomical rates of interest, which can wreck the lives of vulnerable people in our Borough."
