On the 28th May I e-mailed the appropriate Cabinet member to ask him to ban access to payday loan websites on Council computers. Cllr Gilbert replied that day and stated that he would look into the practicability of my proposal. I spoke to him shortly after that and he said that the Cabinet would discuss it. This they did, it was put on the agenda and my idea was implemented on the 24th June Cllr Sam Corcoran e-mailed me on the 29th May to thank me for letting him know of my proposal. He said he intended to raise the issue of blocking the access to payday loan websites on council computers at a future meeting of the Finance Policy Development Group. I have supplied copies of all these e-mails to the media.
The Leader of the Cheshire East Council, Cllr Jones, did not have the good grace to recognise that I was the Councillor who originally suggested the idea when the Council publicised the decision. Not only that, he had the cheek to suggest that I was in some way trying to steal the limelight on the issue. That could hardly be the case considering I raised it in the first place. I await an apology from Cllr. Jones but I won't hold my breath.
