Plans to build 21 houses off Cheerbrook Road, Willaston could be stopped by a German plane that crashed into the proposed site during World War 2.
Willaston and Rope Ward Councillor Brian Silvester said," Thankfully the original application was refused but there is always the possibility of an appeal. Because of this I am asking local people to let me know if they have any knowledge of this crash. If we can confirm that the plane is buried under the site then it likely that an appeal would be rejected on those grounds alone.
Someone who used to live in Cheerbrook Road, near to the proposed building site, said that his father always talked about the day a German plane came down on the back part of that piece of land. He is sure he remembers it also although he was only a child at the time. His father also said that the MOD people came to inspect the wreckage and brought in machinery to dig a pit to bury what remained of the plane saying that the land could never be built on.
I have been in touch with a colleague from our local German twin town of Bischofsheim to see if he can check it out with the German Authorities and he said he would."
