CREWE CELEBRATE A HISTORIC CUP VICTORY

Willaston and Rope Ward Councillor Brian Silvester said," Everyone in the Borough will be delighted that Crewe Alexandra have won two stunning victories at Wembley in less than a year. The Alex have won a major national cup (the Johnstone Paints Final) for the first time in their 136 year history. For a small club like Crewe Alexandra to win through to play at Wembley twice,  and to win twice, in less than a year, is a major achievement. I am proud to support Crewe because they discover local young players and give them an opportunity to play on the national stage. If there were  more clubs like Crewe, England would be a stronger force in world football.

The winning philosophy of the team and their appearances in the national sporting media helps to put Cheshire East on the map and will encourage many more people to support the Alex and visit the Borough. It will also lead to more local people playing football and becoming involved in healthy activity.

Everyone involved with Crewe Alexandra should be congratulated on their continuing success."

Margaret Thatcher was one of our greatest Prime Ministers.

Dear sir,

Margaret Thatcher was one of our greatest Prime Ministers. When she became our first female Prime Minister in 1979  it was just after the Winter of Discontent. The country was in the grip of militant trade unionism and many in the establishment thought the only possible option was to manage the decline of the country. Mrs Thatcher would have none of that. She got elected to make this country great again and that is what  she achieved and she had to do it against the massed ranks of the left and even many in her own party.

Mrs Thatcher was a great believer in liberty and freedom. She set the country free from exorbitant taxation, union control and foreign dictators. She gave the opportunity to Council tenants to become home owners and millions became shareholders for the first time. She played a major role  in the downfall of international communism and the Soviet Union and  stayed resolute to ensure that the Falklands remained British. She stood up for Britain in the European Union (EU) and warned of the then ambitions of the EU leaders, which are blatantly obvious now, to create a United States of Europe. She was the longest serving Prime Minister of the 20th Century and won three elections in a row with good majorities. She was brought down by short sighted Conservative MPs, many of which were only in Parliament because of her success at the polls. Since she was forced out the Conservatives have only won one election in 23 years.

Britain is going through a difficult period now and we could do with someone of the stature  and brilliance of Margaret Thatcher to take us through it  and forward to a bright new future.
