Sign-up and save on energy bills at your local library

People are being urged to visit their local library and sign up to the Collective Energy Switching Campaign, as part of a movement to drive down winter bills. Sign-up events will happen right across the Borough between now and the end of March.

The more people who do sign up, the better buying power the Council will have when they hold an online auction on April 9.

The energy companies that make the lowest bid will win your ‘collective custom’ and means people could save hundreds of pounds on their energy bills.

The Council is looking for as many people as possible to join the scheme and hopes to smash its target of 7,000 people between now and the cut-off date of April 8.

Cheshire East Council is committed to helping people drive down their energy bills so that they can afford to heat their homes properly during the harsh winters.

Councillor Jamie Macrae, Cabinet Member in charge of regeneration and economic prosperity, said: “Libraries are the perfect place to reach people who may not have access to the internet and so we are hoping they will sign up there and then.

“The campaign is open to everyone, with a focus on elderly people and young families, and there’s no obligation to switch even after you’ve signed up.

“Our ultimate aim is to tackle fuel poverty and the associated health problems this brings with it.

“For every customer who switches as part of the campaign, the Council will receive £5, which will then be channelled back into future winter campaigns to ensure we are continually tackling the problem. It is estimated that around 28,000 people in Cheshire East are in fuel poverty.”

To sign up on-line log on to: www.energytogether.co.uk and fill out a short online application or call 0300 123 5035. As well as registering yourself you can register up to four other households.
