Today, marks John Dwyer’s 100th day in office as Cheshire’s Police & Crime Commissioner. It has been a challenging and exciting time. He has set the police budget and developed his Police & Crime Plan which sets the direction for policing. He has also met with many community groups and individuals to understand their policing needs and where they think the service can be improved.
John Dwyer said, "The most important part of my role is to make the people of Cheshire safer by cutting crime. I am holding the Chief Constable to account on behalf of the public and I need to understand where they are coming from in order to do this effectively. I will be an accessible Commissioner and have made sure that I am available at regular surgeries for people to make an appointment with me, I have been out on roadshows to help people better understand my role and I have gathered the views of community representatives such as the business and rural sectors and Councillors."
"The ‘honeymoon’ period is over and having settled into my new role, I have been thinking about what people have told me. I am clear that I will be relentless in seeking improvements to policing. I want people to be proud of the police service in Cheshire and any area of underperformance will not be acceptable. I will actively challenge the Chief Constable David Whatton and make sure that I am accountable for doing so.
