Cheshire East Council’s adoption service is working hard to provide high-quality placements for vulnerable children and young people, which ensure their wellbeing and support them to lead happy, healthy lives.
This is the verdict of Ofsted as they announced the results of their latest inspection.
The Council achieved an overall rating of good: meaning the service is of high quality, exceeding minimum requirements.
Inspectors said that thorough training and a robust assessment process helped to ensure that adopters are suitable and able to undertake their parenting role.
Tracking and monitoring systems were also praised, along with the service’s ability to keep siblings together.
The report also said leaders and managers demonstrated a strong commitment to adoption, with staff being hard working, knowledgeable and dedicated to delivering a good-quality service.
Councillor Rachel Bailey, Cabinet member in charge of children and family services, said; “I am delighted with this report, which is a testament to the hard work of our dedicated staff. It is even more impressive as this inspection is the first one under the new, more stringent, assessment framework.
“It provides a clear assurance to the people of Cheshire East that the interests of children, young people and their families lie at the heart of all we do.
“The number of people approved as adopters is increasing year on year, as is the number of children adopted – but we are not resting on our laurels.
“We are committed to continuing to improve in order to provide the best services possible, to honour our commitment to improving life opportunities and health for everybody in Cheshire East.”
The adoption service undertakes or makes arrangements for all statutory adoption work. It recruits, assesses and approves adopters, matches and places children with families and provides support to those affected by adoption.
