Crewe detectives investigate arson spate

Following the report of four cars being burnt out within a mile of each other in Crewe, detectives are appealing for witnesses.

The first two incidents occurred just before 5am in Greystone Park, Earle Street, Crewe and involved a yellow Ford Ka and a black Vauhall Astra which were 50 to 60 yards apart.

The third fire involved a red Vauxhall Vectra in Harrison Drive, which was out on firefighters arrival after police extinguished the flames using an extinguisher.

The final fire affected the front of a garage after a red Volkswagen Polo, which had been parked on a driveway, was set alight.

Crewe NPU Inspector Lindsay Chamberlain said "This destructive, mindless vandalism will not be tolerated.

"Detectives are trawling though CCTV to try to identify the culprits."

DS Jim Boultlon said: "We would appeal to the community to call us if you have any information that might help catch those responsible.

"Anyone with information should contact Crewe CID on 101 quoting incident number 105 and 103 of 10 July 2012.

"Alternatively information can be given anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
