New exercise classes to improve stability in older people have been organised by Cheshire East Council.
Be Steady, Be Safe sessions are exercise classes to help keep people from having falls, which represent the most frequent and serious type of accident in the over 65s.
Poor strength and balance are key risk factors which lead to injuries in older people, but these can be improved with specific exercises using resistance ankle weights.
The classes can improve balance, strength and confidence and are ideal for anyone who is worried about falling, has fallen or has poor balance and mobility.
Popular classes are currently held in Macclesfield, Crewe, Nantwich, Alsager, Middlewich and Sandbach. Two new sessions are due to start in Handforth and another in Crewe from next Thursday (July 12).
The new classes will be held at:
· Pickmere, Rose Terrace, Crewe – Thursdays from 10.30am-11.30am.
· Oakmere, Spath Lane, Handforth – Thursdays from 11.15am-12.15pm.
Classes are £2 per person and no booking is required.
