Sandbach Town Hall transfers to local control

One of Sandbach’s key public buildings is now under the ownership of the town council.

The Sandbach Town Hall complex, which also houses public toilets, will now be managed and maintained by Sandbach Town Council.

It forms part of Cheshire East Council’s programme of transfer and devolution of assets and services and follows productive talks between the two authorities to complete the move, which is in keeping with the Government’s localism agenda.

Councillor Rachel Bailey, Cabinet member in charge of communities and regulatory services, said: “I am pleased that the transfer of this important local facility is complete and I thank Sandbach Town Council for its commitment to this cause.

“I am confident that these facilities will be successfully managed by the town council and we believe it is best placed to run them for the benefit of the people of Sandbach.

“Cheshire East Council is mindful that all town and parish councils need to be in a fit and proper position before they can hit the ground running with the transfer of assets and services and it continues to work positively with them.”

Councillor Carolyn Lowe, Mayor of Sandbach Town Council, said: “Taking over ownership and management of these assets is a big responsibility for Sandbach Town Council, but we have prepared well and intend to make the most of them to benefit our community.

“Plans for the town hall include refurbishment and promotion, whilst in time the market will be re-invigorated. We feel that we can provide a better service at a local level and that this will benefit the town as a whole.”
