Some London and North Western Railway boundary stones have been preserved for posterity. Crewenews.net contacted Brian Silvester weeks ago about these stones and they have now been saved thanks to Brian and Crewenews.net
Councillor Brian Silvester said, " The developer who is developing the old LMR Club site in Goddard Street Crewe, James Duddy , got in touch with me about the historic stones. He kindly offered them provided they could be preserved. The Council has now taken them into safe keeping with a view to having them put on display at the Rail Heritage Centre in Crewe. I would like to thank Mr. Duddy and his company for their kindness, the demolition company who have carried out the removal of the stones for free and the Council officers who have worked hard to get this very satisfactory outcome to save these historic railway artefacts."
Cllr Dorothy Flude said," Thanks to the contractors for their cooperation. There are other stones that need to be reinstated, the Sackville Stones are in store at the Pyms Lane Council Depot. They were originally in the Jubilee Gardens. We need to place both sets of stones in close proximity to their original site in the town. A suggestion would be at the back of the Jubilee Gardens in the town centre."
