A video outlining the efforts of Cheshire East Council and other north west organisations in welcoming international athletes ahead of the Olympic games is up for a prestigious award.
The short film was put together by teenage volunteers from The Reporters Academy.
The group has been working very closely with the consortium to record the experiences of the pre-games training camps.
A total of 10 organisations, including Cheshire East Council and Manchester Metropolitan University Cheshire, linked up to offer training opportunities to 15 Oceania nations.
Locally, this has seen the Vanuatu women’s beach volleyball team, and two male boxers from the pacific island of Kiribati, spend time in Crewe.
The 30-second film has been nominated for the Pierre De-Coubertin Award at the Podium Awards. Pierre De-Coubertin was the founder of the modern Olympics and the category is for entries that most live up to his ideals.
The winner is decided by an online public vote. The deadline is 20:12 on May 3. The winner will be announced at a ceremony in London later that evening.
Councillor Rod Menlove, Cabinet member with responsibility for environmental services, said: “I would like to wish all those behind the film the best of luck. Here in Cheshire East we have worked hard with athletes from the pacific islands in the hope of helping their qualification to the games in London.
“I would encourage people to go online to watch the video and vote for it.”
