Police operation in Nantwich hailed a success

A crackdown on antisocial behaviour and drink-related crime and disorder in Nantwich last weekend has been hailed a success by police.

On Saturday evening, Nantwich Neighbourhood Policing Team were out and about on the streets of the town to deter any would-be troublemakers and ensure that those out to enjoy a night in Nantwich could do so in a safe and secure environment.

A police dog handler and passive drugs dog supported the local officers in patrolling the streets to detect anyone carrying or using controlled drugs. Almost twenty individuals were identified as possibly being in possession of drugs or having recently been in close proximity to an illegal substance.

Inspector Dave Smithers from Nantwich Neighbourhood Policing Team said "The purpose of this operation is to keep our town safe over the course of the weekend which traditionally sees more people out and about in the towns bars and pubs. Our message is clear - drugs are a blight on our community and illegal drug use and distribution at every level will not be tolerated in Nantwich. We will use all means at our disposal to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the local community and will continue to run operations such as this involving a drugs dog in the fight against crime and disorder"
