I am once again calling on Cheshire East Council to immediately withdraw the planning application for the travellers’ site on Parkers Road. The Council’s own Strategic Highways and Transport manager is saying the application plan falls short of acceptable design standards and recommends the planning permission be refused on Highway safety grounds.
In general the planning statement makes a number of claims regarding the agreed highways position, but whilst this advice was given by the strategic housing manager the application does not demonstrate full compliance.
To me, It is clear that if the Council were to go ahead and build this site, they would be putting at risk the lives of local residents and the lives of any occupants of the site, who have the right to live in a safe environment. It is time the Council admitted they have made a mistake, withdraw this planning application, and look for a suitable site where the traveller community can live safely.
I am amazed the Council has spent so much public money on this site and on the application, when they should have consulted the Highways engineers at the beginning, so that all this cost to the public purse could have been saved. I wish to congratulate the protest group for waging such a professional campaign against the proposed site. Hopefully the Council will now see sense and drop the plan.
