CONGRATULATIONS VICKY

CHESHIRE EAST SOCIAL WORKER THROUGH TO NATIONAL FINALS OF SOCIAL WORKER OF THE YEAR

Cheshire East social worker Vicky Hassall has been nominated as a finalist for the Social Worker of the Year 2010.

Vicky, who works as part of the Local Independent Living Team at Delamere House, in Crewe, won the regional heat for Merseyside and North Wales out of 55 nominees.

The heats were held on Thursday, June 24, at Andersons Bar, in Liverpool, where the nominees later enjoyed a buffet.

Vicky was presented with a bunch of flowers and a £50 Marks &Spencer voucher.

She will now go on to the national finals that will be held at the Waldorf Hotel, in London, on 2 September 2010.

Vicky said: “I feel honoured to be nominated for this award. It’s great to get some positive feedback for social workers because everyone works so hard.

“This is not just an individual award, I see this as a wider recognition of the entire team I work with.

She added: “I’m looking forward to the trip to London and am really excited to be nominated and to be amongst some truly amazing people.”

Vicky acts as a mentor, supervising university students studying for a degree in social care during their work placements. She was nominated by one of her students for her role in Adult Services.

Councillor Roland Domleo, Cabinet member with responsibility for adult services said: “I’m immensely proud of Vicky, she thoroughly deserves this recognition for all her hard work in the community. I wish her all the best for the next stage.”

Reed Social Care Agency has been running the event for the last two years, in partnership with Sue Ryder, and for every nomination Reed, give Sue Ryder £8.70 to contribute to an hour of care for less-advantaged people.
