BRIDGE REPAIRS IN WHEELOCK

Work is to begin on substantial repairs to a bridge in Wheelock, Sandbach, this month.

From Monday, July 12, the Wheelock Station Bridge, which carries traffic on Crewe Road over the Wheelock Rail Trail, is to be waterproofed.

The work is being carried out to prevent the further deterioration of the brick arches and supporting structure.

The repairs are expected to be completed by late October.

The section of Crewe Road will be open to single lane traffic with temporary traffic lights in place throughout.

Drivers are advised to use an alternative route, as delays can be expected.

Cheshire East Councillor Rod Menlove, Cabinet member with responsibility for environmental services, said:

“These essential repairs will ensure this structure remains sound for many years to come.

“I would like to thank commuters, in advance, for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience this work may cause.”
