MONEY RAISED AT EVENT GOES TO ALZHEIMER’S SOCIETY

It was hats-off to the Alzheimer’s Society this week.

A cheque for £1,400 was presented to the charity at the Cheshire East Council building at Westfields, Sandbach.

The money was raised by all three representatives at this year’s Cheshire Building Excellence Awards: Cheshire East Council; Cheshire West and Chester Council; and Warrington Borough Council.

The Alzheimer’s Society plan to use the money to fund a number of their schemes, including:

  • Local support group meetings which provide breaks for carers;

  • ‘Sitters’ to provide respite for those who care for an Alzheimer’s sufferer; and

  • Activities for those who have Alzheimer’s.

Those who headed-up the fundraiser are: Dave Burrows building control manager for Cheshire West and Chester Council; Tony Gartside, building control manager for Warrington Borough Council; Ian Bunn, building control manager at Cheshire East Council; and Bernard Woolley, area team leader building control at Cheshire East Council.

Cheshire East Councillor Roland Domleo, Cabinet member with responsibility for adult services, said: “I am sure this money will be used wisely by the Alzheimer’s Society. The condition affects many people in Cheshire; both sufferers and their carers.

“It is pleasing that some of this money will go to supporting carers. They often carry a heavy burden without adequate help and respite. We are all in debt to them for what they do.It is great to see those who attended the Cheshire Building Excellence Awards decided to celebrate their success by contributing to the continued success of a very worthy cause.”
