Lyceum Tops the Bill at National Awards

Crewe’s Lyceum has beaten off competition from some of the UK’s leading theatres to scoop a national award.

It won the trophy for Show Guide of the Year 2009 at the prestigious Encore Theatre Awards, which honours various sections of the entertainment industry.

The Cheshire East Council-run theatre was selected from a shortlist which included London’s Leicester Square Theatre and Weston-super-Mare’s Playhouse.

Designed by the Lyceum marketing team, the bi-annual listings programme was judged on its appearance, design, attractiveness, ease of use, presentation and clarity of information.

It is distributed to a mailing list of around 15,000 and all information centres and libraries within a 50-mile radius.

Councillor Andrew Knowles, Cabinet member with responsibility for health and wellbeing, praised the Lyceum’s team of staff, which is led by Philippa Unett.

He said: “This is fantastic news for the Crewe Lyceum Theatre and my warmest congratulations go to all staff.

“To have fought off competition from such prestigious theatres is a marvellous achievement and underlines how fortunate we are in Cheshire East to have a venue of such quality on our doorstep.

“The programme design is very fresh and modern with easy to read information, so it is simple to find out about performances as well as other services the Lyceum provides, including wedding and exhibition information.”

Forthcoming productions at the Lyceum include a new musical adaptation of Wind in the Willows from June 17-19. For more details visit www.lyceumtheatre.net
