Walks For All in the Cheshire East Countryside

: Cheshire East Mayor Margaret Simon joins members of local groups to celebrate the launch of the Walks For All booklet.

The picturesque Cheshire East countryside is now even easier to access thanks to a new walking guide aimed at people of all abilities.

Published by Cheshire East Council, ‘Walks For All’ details 10 routes which are suitable for those with children, pushchairs, wheelchairs and those with limited mobility.

The walks include a new lakeside path around Astbury Mere in Congleton, the riverside area of Nantwich and the rugged hill country of Tegg’s Nose near Macclesfield.

Details of path surfaces and gradients, gates and gaps, public transport, parking, toilets and refreshment facilities are listed for each route.

The booklet was developed with the help of local groups and individuals who advised on the content and the layout.

To celebrate its launch a guided walk was held at Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve with representatives from the groups including Carter House Day Centre in Congleton, Link Up Club from Blacon, Cheshire Local Access Forum and Age Concern.

Councillor Andrew Knowles, Cabinet member with responsibility for health and wellbeing, said: “A walk in the countryside is a marvellous form of gentle exercise but understandably the prospect of steps and stiles can put some people off.

“The 10 routes in the booklet are described in detail and shown on a map so walkers can plan exactly where and how far to go.

“They are of varying length and take in many aspects of the wonderfully diverse Cheshire East countryside, so there really is something for everyone.”

Copies of the leaflet are available from Cheshire East Council Customer Service Points, the Public Rights of Way team on 01606 271801 or to download from the Cheshire East Council website www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/rangers
