Crewe Sports Club is Bowled Over by Success

Cheshire East Council will be offering its congratulations to Crewe Youth Bowling Club this Saturday (April 24) when its members celebrate achieving a national accreditation.

The team have become only the third tenpin youth bowling club in the country to be awarded the Sport England Clubmark.

The Council’s Sports Development Team worked closely with club leaders Julie and Neil Coe to support their bid for the award, which recognises clubs that offer high-quality, welcoming environments for young participants.

The club was required to provide evidence of good practice in four areas: playing programme; duty of care and child protection; sports equity and ethics and club management.

Members will be presented with the Clubmark at 11.30am on Saturday at Lakeside Superbowl in Crewe where they hold their weekly practice sessions.

Councillor Andrew Knowles, Cabinet member with responsibility for health and wellbeing, said: “My warmest congratulations go to the Crewe Youth Bowling Club for this marvellous achievement.

“Tenpin bowling is recognised by Sport England as a competitive sport as well as an informal recreational activity and it is fully inclusive - a feature well reflected by the Crewe YBC which has members with disabilities.

“The Clubmark recognises the club’s success in encouraging young people to take up sport, improve their talents, possibly play a leadership role and give them the option to maintain lifelong participation in sport.

“This achievement is also a tribute to Cheshire East Council’s Sports Development Team and the magnificent work they do to support our local clubs.”
