Promoting Dignity In Cheshire East

Carers and service users joined Social Care staff to highlight the importance of dignity for people receiving care in Cheshire East.

Pamper sessions, quizzes, coffee mornings and card games were among the events and activities organised by Cheshire East Council to promote Dignity Action Day.

The national ‘day of action’ encourages individuals, staff and communities to promote dignity and respect in the areas where they live and work.

A drop-in session was held at Central and Eastern Cheshire Primary Care Trust’s headquarters at Universal House in Middlewich, where visitors could browse displays promoting dignity and respect and chat to social care staff and health workers.

Meanwhile, special events were held at social care settings throughout the area.

Staff at Cypress House Community Support Centre in Handforth organised a residents’ quiz and a beauty therapist treated service users at Macclesfield’s Peatfields Day Centre to hand massages, foot spas and manicures.

Carter House Day Centre in Congleton held an open day for carers with coffee and cakes while staff at Henbury Road in Handforth organised a card game for residents.

Councillor Roland Domleo, Cabinet member with responsibility for adult services, said: “Many of us at some point in our lives will have contact with social care and health services, whether as a service user, patient, carer, relative or friend, and we hope that when we do we will be treated with dignity and respect.

“In Cheshire East, dignity is not an ‘add-on’ to the services we provide - it is at the heart of everything we do.
“Dignity Action Day is an excellent opportunity to promote the dignity of those receiving care and to make dignity and respect everyone’s responsibility, in order to ensure standards remain high.”
