Charity Warehouse

Some of you may have seen the above van in the area or even gone down Samuel St and seen the newly opened Charity Warehouse were you can get your furniture cheap. They will also come and remove your old goods for you to save you going to the tip.
Isn't it good to see everything being recycled and being used by a charity?

Well there is a twist in the tail an old lady was suspicious as the van doesnt show a Charity number so she contacted the Charity Commission and Ceri Young
Charity Commission Direct - Caseworking Team t: 0845 300 0218 confirmed this is NOT A CHARITY. So were does the money GO?

We have been here 7 years, sorry we didn’t put our number on the van.

Charity number 1093876.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Christian Centre (Hightown)

We put out a charity bag for the Lifeboats this morning and that van just took it.

So , the Charity Warehouse appears to be another name for the Christian Centre, according to the charity number given. Does the Charity Commision need to be informed of name change etc?

there is nothing charitable about their actions; bullying and threatening are the phrases I would use, They attend the weekly car boot sale on oak street car park in crewe and are nothing short of thugs. I would sincerely hope that the people using the christian centre's van this morning are nothing to do with a genuine charity; if this is the case then I suggest the Christian Centre is a little more careful who they are letting use their vehicles. If they are anything to do with the a registered charity, it is not a charity I would recommend donating anything to. Can someone at The Christian Centre clear up this situation please.

Please note this is indeed a con the christian centre rent the warehouse out to a couple of thugs from crewe who then pay the so called paster stef and her husband auther Meakin for the use of the warehouse and the use of the charity number. this is highly illegal as is some of the other practices of this couple who have conned people out of thousands of pounds, they have fraudulently used the charity commission and they have done so blatently. They are even conning the so called congregation of the christain centre. If you know these people and those at the warehouse report them to the police and the charity commission as I have done they are fiddleing the tax man and getting away with business rates by hiding behind a so called charity number. you will find that these so called church leaders are subletting to thugs and have failed to infom the charity. more investigation into this couple would also prove theyhave fiddled there books

I am very confused about this charity according to there accounts on the official charity commissions website there doesnt seem to be be any updated accounts since 2009, which leads me to believe whoever is operating this charity is not above board and someone like the chairty commission should step in and investigate these people.

Iam writing after reading comments on the charity warehouse and iam still wondering why this place is still open its abig con the people in this place are a bunch of con people from round the area who con old people, my auntie bought a hoover from the warehouse and was told is worked perfectley and to bring it back if had any problems, well she got it home and it didn't work, she took it back to the warehouse where she ask to change it, a chubby lad said to her have you got a receipt" and she said you never gave me one and then she was told well you can't change or have your money back and told to f*** off.

Hello, I in fact worked at this warehouse for around a year. I know for a fact that they are not "a bunch of cowboys" or "nothing short of thugs". They often underprice items and most of the time customers are always satisfied and return to the warehouse. Due to the large number of non-british citizens in Crewe, they even make an effort to learn their language to make them feel comfortable. They are all good, honest people and actually, if a family come in with a small child, after making a purchase they allow the youngster to pick a toy out for free. Now would a bunch of thugs do this? I think not.

I have recently spoken to Rev. Wilkes of the St Pauls Church and was quite alarmed to hear the reverend mention the types of people running this particular warehouse, it seems there has been quite an arousal of suspiscion regarding the type of people running the "Charity Warehouse". my question to the owner is "are you registerd and up to date with your accounts as the online filing shows there is none according to the charity commisions official database, WHO are these people? and WHAT Charity do they represent? i believe an enquiry should be brought forward in order to give the public peace of mind.

I have heard it all now! learning the polish language and handing out free toys? certainly not my experience,..I enquired about an item to wich i received several grunts and then an extortionate price to wich i attempted to haggle by saying can we do any better than that? (wich i thought in these bartering environments was the norm) to my horror seemed to enrage the beast and was told "don't f*****g buy it then"!? Deffinately did not come across anything charitable or christian and well certainly not be going back.

I have to say that every time i have been here the people that run it have been nice and helpful , my advice to you if you don't like it go in, if you have nothing but bad things to say get the facts and make sure that they are correct before you post things.

This is a place that many people shop, every town should have a place like this, we live in a world that is throw away, why not let people make a living from things that people don't want anymore.
I am sure that it would have been closed down if it was not above board. We all know that the tax man is keen to get revenue from us all the charities commission would have closed it down with the help of the police and other organisations, such as trading standards. So don't put comments on here that say that they fiddle the books, Have you seen the evidence of that and are you an accountant?
The people that do investigations into the allegations that have been placed on this blog( as it states that they have been reported) I am sure would have closed the doors and not let them continue to trade for 3 years . Just think about that for a few moments.
If you don't like it don't go , but it provides a service which many people need and want.
Lots has been said about the people who run the warehouse i can only go on what i have seen they have always been polite and helpful to me when i have been there I have never seen them be rude to people even when they are dealing rude and abusive customers,

its seems to amaze me when i look at there figures and i am astonished to find they have only put 10,000 pounds through the books, holy lord as an former retail woman of second hand goods shop, i used to turn over 60-80 thousand a year, all of which was seen and accounted by the commision and inland revenue, a charity based unit as large as this is a busy urban enviroment should be exceeding my figures as i only ran a small shop based unit in less urban kelsall, my accountants opinion is that they are not been very honest with there figures, one can only assume that these people are cowboys and crooks and certainley not charitable, hence the name change to funiture warehouse, i would like to know who runs this so called charitable cause, as a concerne member of the public and former retired charity worker, i will continue to make sure the company is ran properly, informing the comission and inland revenue if appropiate, if anyone could help with my concerns i would appricate a name of the person who is running this charity/funiture warehouse. regards caroline

As of 2011 the charity had new trustee, we have nothing to do with the warehouse, Arthur meakin opened it up and sorted everything with the new owners , it's nothing to do with church. The charity commision only have records of the church and nothing else. Arthur meakin is no longer a trustee but he knows the arrangements with the charity warehouse. Thank you

to conclude on the comment sent 9th september 2012, the warehouse also donates to the local church and other charities in crewe. They sell stuff at lo cost to help poor families and forign nationalities to get started in life. Great work

mmmm i've just been reading the comments here - i go in quite a lot - it's a family run firm - the owners pam and mick are lovely - the prices are excellent - and they WILL barter - i will agree tho that one member of staff - the stocky, surly, young chap is not going to win any customer service awards - but the rest of them are great, well mannered and pleasant

I have shopped in this warehouse for years as far back to when the church ran it and since the present family have been running it. I enjoy finding a bargain and something a little different. I often take in used goods as long as it is re-used and goes back into the community I to be quite honest don't care where it goes and think people have got too much time on their hands! They do in deed help our local community including migrants and low income families. These people also have to earn a living and work hard, they also do employ local migrant workers and it is true they do make an effort to speak basic Polish. People should not judge a book by its cover and should treat the staff they way they expect to be treated themselves. I have found them to always be helpful, hard working and always willing to haggle. Give them a break and consider what they are doing to help our community, which is more than some of us contribute!

I am astonished that people have nothing else better to do with their lives than to go on here and moan, moan, moan, and slag off this "charity warehouse" its so sad I have bought things from here when I have been unable to afford to furnish my house. Alot of people in Crewe and surrounding areas are in a situation where they can not afford brand new furniture these so called "thugs" collect unwanted furniture that could/would otherwise be dumped in the streets and sell it on, some prices are cheap some maybe a little overpricedits up to youself if you want to pay that price they are not unreasonable i have got things at a lower price. So what if they use the "charity" name! really who cares? if people are so disgusted with the place and the prices its simple dont bloody go there and leave all the furniture for people who are Not up their own arses.

they are all thiefs and only want money for themselfes..not any charity.it wants stopping.
